The Spidercam is a cable-suspended electronic camera system which allows movie and television cams to relocate both up and down and also flat over a fixed location, generally the having fun area of a showing off event such as a cricket pitch, football field or a tennis court. The name Spidercam is a hallmark. The Spidercam system is modeled after Skycam, which preceded it, having been created in the United States in 1984. The Spidercam operates with four mechanized winches positioned at each corner at the base of the covered location, each of which controls a Kevlar cable linked to a gyro-stabilized camera-carrier, or dolly. By managing the winding as well as unwinding of the cable televisions, the system allows the dolly to get to any kind of position in the three-dimensional space. The inputs of the Spidercam pilot are processed by software which forwards the commands to the winches via fiber optic cable televisions.
